Fashion Illustration: THROUGH THE DECADES

The history of fashion has come a long way, before they were clothing on a person's body, they were drawings on a paper.
1950s fashion was all casual yet formal and elegant, dresses made to be very tight but easy to move in. Long skirts with rounded hips became fashionable, shoulder lines grew softer, and corset waists shrank. Along with white bobby socks and saddle shoes, the classic grey felt poodle skirts made an appearance.
1960s started to introduce more of a ball gown feel as well as laid back. Modifications, and simple, geometric dresses, were also popular. Evening gowns were worn with voluminous skirts; these frequently featured boat necklines or low necklines and formfitting waists. Women and girls wore capri pants as the go-to casual wear item.
1990s was when slim fitting dresses became all the rage making the fashion industry enter a more expanded business. The red carpets were where a lot outfits made a statement. Many of the dresses were fitted to the women's form accentuating their shape, this became very popular in the years leading up to the 2000s.
2000s style was all about going above and beyond with imagination, in fashion shows all the small things on dresses would be exaggerated. A bow on their waist or angel wings behind them, multiple jewels were added making it more expensive as the model was wearing it.
In recent years, the fashion business has made its way into the billions. This blog will give an insight to what goes into designing a piece before it goes into the hands of fabric.
